Today we depart JFK International Airport for our overnight fl ight to Prague. Dinner and breakfast is served on aboard.
Today, we arrive in the Historical City of Prague capital of the Czech Republic. We are greeted by our guide,board our deluxe motor coach and start on a panorama tour of this beautiful city full of history, quaint streets, churches, shops, and good food. After check-in to our hotel, we'll walk to the church for Mass at 5pm. Return to our hotel for dinner and overnight. (D)
Our day begins with a view from Mala Strana, known as Lesser Town a hillside area with outstanding views of the Vltava River and Old Town. This area dates back to the Middle Ages and is known for its eateries, traditional pubs, narrow streets with many shops. One of the must see sites in Old Town is the Astronomic Clock, dating back 600 years. Every hour on the hour crowds gather in the square to see the clocks unusual movements and the The Walk of the Apostles and other moving statues. It is like no other clock in the world. We will have time to walk across the St. Charles Bridge, built in 1357 AD with it's varies statues of saints and nobles. A statue of St. John Neponik is the most famous dedicated to the Czech Martyr. All year round the bridge is known for its many artists, musicians, and craftsmen who occupy the bridge selling their gifts, a true visitor's delight. We continue to Hradcany Castle which dates back to the 9th century and is the offi cial offi ce of the President. Our next stop is St. Vitus Cathedral, the largest cathedral in Prague, where Coronations of Czech Kings and Queens took place. Several Patron Saints, Nobles and Archbishops are also buried here. The church grounds and town square date back to 925 AD. We continue on to the Church of Our Lady of Victory rebuilt in 1634 by the Carmelite Order. It houses The Statue of the Infant Jesus of Prague donated to the Carmelites in 1628. Mass will be celebrated here. Our last visit is the church of St. John Neponik in Zdena Hora built in honor of this Czeck Martyr who died March 20th 1393. The afternoon is at leisure to explore this magnifi cent magnififi city on our own, shop for the famed Czech crystal, jewelry or sit at one of the many outside cafes relaxing and taking in the wonder of this great city. After breakfast we depart Prague driving along the scenic roads through the Slovak Republic and into Budapest the capital of Hungry. Budapest was once two distinct cities Buda and Pest but in 1873 they united into one city. The century old Chain Bridge that spans the River Danube connects the two cities into one. Arrival in Budapest dock late in the afternoon, passengers are welcome to board our ship MS France at 6:00 pm. After comfortably settling into our cabins, we will have a Welcome Cocktail at 7pm as we are introduced to the Captain and his crew. Dinner will be served on board. Overnight.
After our delicious breakfast on board we will have a sightseeing tour of Budapest a glamorous city, it is sometimes compared to Paris with something to offer all visitors. We will have a panoramic tour of the city as we drive through the Historical Older Section passing the 13th century Cathedral of St. Matthew, the Royal Castle, Melk Abbey, Fisherman's Bastion, the Parliament, Heroes Square and the Church of St. Stephen .The afternoon will be spent cruising to Bratislava once part of Hungary. As we cruise the River Danube (the Blue Danube) we will be awed by the beauty of the sights along the shore: the cathedrals, castles in the distance, the forests, vineyards and forts with centuries of history right before our eyes. Overnight.
This morning we will have a guided tour of Bratislava the Capital of Slovakia. Many areas of the city are Pedestrian-only making it easy to visit the charming 18th century Old Town known for its cafes, pubs, lovely music and shaded squares. It's history is strongly infl uenced by people of different nations and religions. It is the political, cultural and economic centre of Slovakia, ranked the third riches region in the E.U. The Bratislava Castle which Queen Marie- Theresa of Austria held so dear became the prestigious royal seat in 1811. There will be time on our own to explore this awe inspiring capital. The balance of the day will be spent cruising to Vienna. Overnight.
After breakfast we will enjoy a sightseeing tour of Vienna, capital of Austria and home of Strauss and Mozart. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. We visit the spectacular St. Stephen's Cathedral, with the miraculous image of Our Lady of Mariapocs, Mass will be celebrated here. Our next visit is to the Schonbrunn Royal palace and summer house with 1,441 rooms including a Hall of Mirrors where Mozart performed at the age of six before a young Marie Antoinette. We will have a view of the Belvedere Palace well known for its beautiful gardens as we make our way back to the boat. Retun on board . Overnight.
We will cruise along the most beautiful section of the Danube, the Wachau Valley with its rolling hills, vineyards, fortresses and monasteries. We arrive in Durnstein a small town in the Lower State of Austria known for its wine producing and visited by many tourists especially to the fortifi ed village where Richard the Lionheart was once held prisoner by Leopold V Duke of Austria. Next visit is to Melk fi rst mentioned in 831 AD. It is known for its 11th century Melk Abbey. Originally one of Leopold II Castles, he gave it to the Benedictine Monks. It is now a Benedictine monastery that hosts a prestigious coed school with more than 900 students. It is perched high above the town adorned with Gold Statues. We will have time to explore this area with its many gardens and vast history. During World War II the Mauthausen Concentration Camp was located in Melk. In the evening, we'll begin to cruise to Passau, known as the City of the Three Rivers, the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz. Tonight is our gala Farewell Dinner and evening. Overnight.
Early morning breakfast on board before disembarking at 6:30am. Meet our driver and transfer to Munich airport arriving at 9am,just in time to check-in for our flight home. We arrive at JFK the same day taking with us many blessings and great memories to last a life time.
