Day 1 New York, NY
We depart on our international flight to Munich. Dinner and breakfast are
served on board.
Day 2 Munich
Retracing the footsteps of Pope Benedict, we arrive in Munich, the capital of
Bavaria. It is in Munich that Pope Benedict XVI studied at the Catholic
University, was consecrated a Bishop, then nominated a Cardinal in the Church of
Our Lady. We visit the Church of St. Martin; Neukirchen beim hl. Blut, where as
a young priest, his ministry began. Drive to Marienplatz, with the Old and New
Town Hall, and the gothic Frauenkirche. Dinner and overnight in Munich. (B, D)
Day 3 Altotting
After breakfast, drive to Marktl, a small town nestled sleepily along the
river. It is the Pope's birthplace. Stop at the museum and church of St. Oswald,
housing his baptismal font. Continue to Aschau au am Inn where the Pope lived
while attending primary school and received his First Holy Communion. Drive to
Traunstein, where the Pope attended St. Michael's School and celebrated his
first Mass. Drive to Altotting, a pilgrim site since the 8th century. Here we
visit the Shrine of Our Lady, the Chapel of Mercy, St. Konrad Church, and the
Basilica of St. Anna. Dinner and overnight in Altötting. (B, D)
Day 4 Altotting
After breakfast, we sail Lake Chiemsee flowing between Rosenheim and
Salzburg, to visit the royal buildings at Herrenchiemsee and the Frauenchiemsee
Monastery. Return to Altotting for some time to relax, revisit the Shrines on
our own or shop before dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 5 Regensburg
Depart for Freising after breakfast. Pope Benedict XVI studied, became Bishop
of the Archdiocese and in Freising, was ordained into the priesthood in the
Cathedral of St. Korbinian. The Pope also served as a professor at the
Theological University. Stop in Regensburg-Pentling to see the home of the
Ratzinger family. Dinner and overnight in Regensburg. (B, D)
Day 6 Regensburg
After breakfast we enjoy a tour of this very beautiful city with buildings
dating to Roman and Medieval times. Our first stop is the famous gothic-style
Cathedral where George Ratzinger, the Pope's brother, was a bandmaster for the
Regensburger Domspatzen. We visit the University of Regensburg, where the Pope
taught as a professor. Dinner and overnight in Regensburg. (B, D)
Day 7 New York, NY
Transfer to Munich Airport for our flight home arriving the same day. (B)
